Classroom Setup#
SL275 -- Sun's "Intro to Java" course -- is a conventional instructor-led teach. Students require access to workstations (Windows, Linux or Solaris) with the following software pre-installed and configured:
- Firefox Web Browser
- Java Developers Kit; Note that this must be the full JDK, not just the JRE!
- JDK Documentation
- Blue/J Development Tool
- [Optional, but strongly recommended]NetBeans IDE -- Download the JavaSE bundle.
Workstations should have adequate memory and modern CPU's to handle typical developer-tool workloads. 1GB memory minimum; more is better. 2.5GHz CPU minimum. Internet connectivity for students is useful, but not essential.
Please note that I am not able to support students with Windows issues, and Training Centres should ensure that technical personnel are available to handle Windows or local networking issues. I am able to support students on Linux and Solaris.
Equipment#
- Projector
- Whiteboard and new whiteboard pens.
- Flipchart and a way to stick flipchart-sheets to the classroom walls.
Instructor Checklist#
- Instructor manual
- OO materials
- Overhead slides
